Overview

Wise AI is designed with privacy-first principles and complies with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements for handling protected health information (PHI) in healthcare settings. This page summarizes our approach to HIPAA and how we support covered entities and business associates.

Privacy by Design

Wise AI does not store raw video or audio. Video is processed in real time and discarded immediately. Only derived health insights and system metadata are stored, and all data is encrypted using industry-standard safeguards. This design minimizes the footprint of PHI and supports HIPAA-compliant workflows.

Administrative, Technical, and Physical Safeguards

We implement HIPAA-aligned safeguards to protect PHI:

  • Administrative: Policies and procedures for access control, workforce training, risk assessment, and breach response; designated privacy and security roles.
  • Technical: Encryption in transit and at rest, access controls and authentication, audit logging, and secure development practices.
  • Physical: Controls for data center and device security where applicable.

Business Associate Agreements

Where Wise AI creates, receives, maintains, or transmits PHI on behalf of a covered entity or another business associate, we enter into Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) that outline our obligations under HIPAA, including permitted uses, safeguards, breach notification, and return or destruction of PHI.

Use in Healthcare and Telehealth

Our contactless vitals and monitoring technology is used in telehealth, senior care, and other healthcare contexts. When deployed in settings that involve PHI, we work with our customers to ensure appropriate consents, BAAs, and configurations so that use of Wise AI aligns with HIPAA and applicable state laws.

Your Responsibilities

If you are a covered entity or business associate using Wise AI in connection with PHI, you are responsible for ensuring that your use complies with HIPAA, that you have obtained any required patient authorizations, and that you have in place a BAA with Wise AI where applicable.
